IT + PASIVO

The structure “It + passive” is used to focus on an action without specifying who performs it. It is common in formal or academic contexts, especially when talking about books, movies, beliefs, etc. This construction emphasizes the fact or action instead of the subject who performs it.

Affirmative It + passive

This structure is used to affirm that an action was done or is believed to be done by someone, without specifying who. It focuses on the information that follows “it”.

Estructura:

It + passive verb (is/was/will be + past participle) + that-clause

Ejemplos:

1. It is said that the Acknowledgements are very emotional.
     Se dice que los agradecimientos son muy emotivos.

2. It was believed that the Back cover contained a spoiler.
     Se creía que la contraportada contenía un spoiler.

3. It is known that the Dedication is for her mother.
     Se sabe que la dedicación es para su madre.

Negative It + passive

This structure is used to deny something that is affirmed or believed, also without specifying who. It is common to express opinions or mistaken ideas.

Estructura:

It + passive verb (is/was/will be + not + past participle) + that-clause

Ejemplos:

1. It is not said that the Epílogo was necessary.
     No se dice que el epílogo fuera necesario.

2. It is not believed that the Index is complete.
     No se cree que el índice esté completo.

3. It was not assumed that the Introduction was written by the author.
     No se asumía que la introducción fue escrita por el autor.

Ejercicio:

Ayude al teacher a traducir al inglés las siguientes oraciones:

1. Se acepta que el índice ayuda en la navegación.

2. No se declara que la introducción sea autobiográfica.

3. Se reporta que el lomo se rompió tras un uso.
