How Commerce Used to Shape Our Everyday Life
"In the past, our view of commerce used to be very different from what we know today. It used to rely on personal relationships, handwritten invoices, and face-to-face negotiation. Every day, workers arrived early at local markets where the air smelled of spices, and you could hear the soft drips of leaking pipes inside the storage rooms. There used to be a saleswoman who greeted everyone with a warm smile and explained each service with passion. People felt comfortable trusting her, even when the product was new or untested. The walls of the warehouse still echo those conversations. A young student once presented his eco-friendly design to an audience of skeptical merchants. The quality of his prototype surprised everyone, and many started talking about sustainability. God knows that such initiatives weren’t common back then. But the market would change quickly, especially during seasonal peaks, when demand and consumption would rise. Additionally, small shops used to depend on neighbors to recommend every good they sold. That’s how local commerce thrived before everything moved online. Today, things are different, but those moments built the foundation of modern trade."
