Talking About Past Habits with Would

Would is used to talk about habits or repeated actions in the past that no longer happen. It is common in nostalgic memories and only refers to actions, not states.

Estructura:

Subject + would + base form

Ejemplos:

Describing Past Habits and States with Used To

Used to is used to describe past habits, states, and situations that are no longer true. It can be used in affirmations, questions, and negatives.

Estructura:

Subject + used to + base form

Ejemplos:

1. She used to play soccer every weekend.
     Ella solía jugar fútbol todos los fines de semana.

2. Markets used to operate only in physical locations.
     Los mercados solían operar solo en ubicaciones físicas.

3. Suppliers used to provide limited supply to small stores.
     Los proveedores solían proveer una oferta limitada a las tiendas pequeñas.

Using the Simple Past for One-time Events

The simple past is used to talk about actions or events that happened once in the past, not for habits or states.

Estructura:

Subject + past verb

Ejemplos:

     El nuevo producto se lanzó el mes pasado.

2. The company introduced a new service last year.
     La empresa introdujo un nuevo servicio el año pasado.

Negative and Question Forms with Used To

In questions and negatives with did, use to is used without the "d".

Estructura:

Did + subject + use to + base verb?

Ejemplos:
