LOS INFINITIVOS COMO COMPLEMENTOS DEL SUJETO |
Infinitives as subject complements are a grammatical structure where the verb in its base form (infinitive) is used to complete or give meaning to the action of the subject in a sentence. This structure is common in English and has various applications. Below, we will explore how infinitives are used after verbs like "be."
Subject + be + Infinitive to express future action or intention
When we use the verb "be" followed by an infinitive, it can also express a future action or intention. This is common when talking about plans, decisions, or things that need to be done in the future.
Estructura:
|
Subject + be + infinitive (to + verb) |
Ejemplos:
1. I am to cook dinner tonight.
Yo voy a cocinar la cena esta noche.
2. She is to compete in the tournament.
Ella va a competir en el torneo.
3. They are to run in the marathon tomorrow.
Ellos van a correr en el maratón mañana.
Subject + Modal + be + infinitive
Sometimes, the "be + infinitive" structure is used after modal verbs to indicate an action that must be performed or is about to be performed. This usually occurs when a modal verb (such as must, should, can) is followed by "be" and an infinitive to talk about a future action or obligation.
Estructura:
|
Subject + Modal + be + infinitive |
Ejemplos:
1. He must be to sleep early tonight.
Él debe dormir temprano esta noche.
2. We should be to exercise more often.
Deberíamos ejercitarnos más a menudo.
3. She can be to swim really well.
Ella puede nadar muy bien.
