FUTURE CONTINUOUS

The Future Continuous is used to talk about actions that will be happening at a specific time in the future. In this tense, the verb "will" is combined with the verb "be" in its future form and with the main verb in its gerund form (-ing).

Affirmative

It is used to express an action that will occur in the future in an affirmative way. To form this structure, we use the auxiliary verb will followed by be in its appropriate form and the main verb in its gerund form.

Structure:

Subject + will + be + verb in gerund

Examples:

                                          AG.4.2.2

1. A blizzard will be affecting the area next week.
Un torbellino de nieve afectará la zona la próxima semana.

2. A drought will be causing major problems for farmers.
Una sequía causará grandes problemas para los agricultores.

3. An earthquake will be shaking the ground at 6 p.m.
Un terremoto estará sacudiendo el suelo a las 6 p.m.

Negative

To negate an action in the Future Continuous, we add "not" after will to form the negation. This indicates that the action will not happen in the future.

Structure:

Subject + will + not + be + verb in gerund

Examples:

                                          AG.4.2.3

1. Flooding will not be affecting the city tomorrow.
Las inundaciones no afectarán la ciudad mañana.

2. A hurricane will not be hitting the coast next month.
Un huracán no golpeará la costa el próximo mes.

3. Icy roads will not be causing accidents at rush hour.
Las carreteras heladas no causarán accidentes en hora punta.

Yes/No Questions

To ask questions in the Future Continuous, we invert the position of will and the subject. This creates a question structure that can be answered with "yes" or "no".

Structure:

Will + subject + be + verb in gerund?

Examples:

                                          AG.4.2.4

1. Will strong winds be blowing this afternoon?
¿Estarán soplando vientos fuertes esta tarde?

2. Will a tornado be forming over the ocean?
¿Estará formándose un tornado sobre el océano?

3. Will a wildfire be spreading through the forest?
¿Estará propagándose un incendio forestal por el bosque?

Information Questions

Information questions in the Future Continuous follow a similar structure to yes/no questions, but they include an interrogative word like what, where, when, how, etc.

Structure:

Interrogative word + will + subject + be + verb in gerund?

Examples:

                                          AG.4.2.5

1. What will be happening when the blizzard hits?
¿Qué estará pasando cuando el torbellino de nieve llegue?

2. Where will the drought be affecting the most?
¿Dónde estará afectando más la sequía?

3. When will the earthquake be striking the region?
¿Cuándo estará ocurriendo el terremoto en la región?
